Week Ending Saturday December 17, 2011

Last Monday was the final week of our 9 Holes competition for 2011. The winner was Wendy Lewis with 26 ½ Nett and runner up was Alyson Bentley with 27 Nett. Alyson was nearest the pin on the 18th. This competition will begin again on the 9th  January 2012. Names in the book by 7.45, ready to tee off at 8.00 am. All interested persons welcome. No handicap needed.

McNair’s Army played Stableford last Tuesday. The winner was Lindsay Wilson (16) 40 pts and Runner/up was Ed Bodey (Eildon 15) 39pts. Nearest the Pin on the 18th was Leo Doyle. Tee off time for McNair’s Army is names in by 11.30 am for 12.00 noon start.

Last Wednesday was Stroke and the 1st round of the Summer Championships for the ladies. The Division 1 winner was Alyson Bentley 85 (18) 67 on a count back from runner up Marion Williamson 95 (28) 67. Division 2 winner was Marg Bland 94 (31) 63 and runner up was Val Lethbridge 105 (32) 73. Helen Wilson was the 9 holes winner with 34 ½ Nett. Nearest the pin on the 2nd was Barb Doyle; on the 5th Val Lethbridge, 18th Pauline Brooks and Alyson Bentley was the money winner on the 12th. Congratulations Alyson on your fantastic golf form over the last couple of weeks. Holidays are obviously good for you. There will be no golf on Wednesday 28th of December. Wednesday 4th of January will be Stableford and Wednesday the 11th of January will be Stroke and the 2nd round of the Summer Championships. Names in by 8.00am for 8.30 tee off.

The ladies enjoyed their Christmas breakup last Monday night. Thanks to Pauline and Marie for their organization, Mor (Mavis), Val and Josie for the entertainment and the Commercial Hotel for their hospitality. A good night was had by all.

Thursday’s chicken run had 21 players last week. The winner was Adam Littlejohn with 26 Nett and runners up were Dave Hollis and Rob Kidd with 28 Nett and Heath Vine with 29 Nett. The raffle winners were Elizabeth Goss. This 9 hole competition is open to all interested persons. No handicap needed. Names in by 5.00 pm. The cost is $10.00 which includes a BBQ dinner.

Saturday the 17th of December was Stroke, and Medal of Medallist play off. The Men’s A Grade Winner was Jay McCashney 84-18-66 and the Runner Up was Alan Kirkpatrick. 80-12-68. The B Grade winner was Andy Johnston 83-20-63

and Runner up was Graham Daveys 91-25-66. The Ladies A Grade Winner was Sue Greatorex 86-20-66 and Runner up was Marg Fahey. Nearest to the pins on the 5th was Nick Pearson, on the 8th was Matt Richards, the 12th Graham Daveys and on the 18th Steve Darmody. Ball run down: John Greatorex 68, Nick Pearson 69, Gary Gilchrist 70 and Ken Sheers 70. Entry winner was Jay McCashney. Raffle winners were Bev Dodge, Dave Silverman and Frank Devries.

Next Saturday 24th of December is our Christmas Breakup. There will be a 4 person Ambrose competition. Names in by 8.00 for 8.30 hit off. A BBQ lunch will follow. The cost will be $15 per Players and $7 per Guest.

Congratulations to Rocky Phelps who was the lucky winner of our Christmas Hamper Raffle. A big thank you to Marie and Pauline for their organization, to all those who donated their time to sell tickets and to Roger Welch and his staff at Thrifty Link who were of great assistance in setting up and packing away at the end of each day.

This will be the last Golf News until the middle of January. I would like to take this opportunity to wish everybody an enjoyable festive season and a happy and healthy 2012.
